Sample Pages and Update, 6/6/08
I received the printed signature sheets last week and the signing and inscribing process has begun (see Update of 5/20/08). I spoke with Harold Bloom recently and we are tentatively scheduled to meet in a few weeks so he can sign the Lettered and possibly the Numbered editions; unfortunately, I cannot promise Bloom will sign until he has done so, but the prospects are good.
Meanwhile John Berry, John Crowley, Peter Milton, and I continue to work on the art selections and placements for the book. Mr. Crowley is so pleased with how things are turning out that he suggested we post a sample chapter online so folks can take a look. Please bear in mind that this is a relatively low-resolution pdf file, best viewed in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat as a series of page spreads. The book's trim size is 7.5 by 10 (inches). Two of the details from Peter Milton’s art come from color files, but will be reproduced as duotones in the finished book. (A complete list of and links to the sources for the art details in Book One Chapter 1 can be found below.) Since the chapter is a PDF it can be printed, but the art will not reproduce well and the proper page proportions will be lost on 8.5 x 11 or A4 paper. For those and other reasons we must ask that you not copy or distribute any pages printed from the PDF; our aim is only to share with you an example of the basic layout and design sensibility we are working with. Also, these pages and the art choices and layouts are not final, and may change before the book is printed; the text itself is all but final. I welcome your comments.
We are still on track for late June for getting the bulk of the book to the printer, and another project update will be posted here at that time, if not before.
